Again, the Spirit performed many different works in the Gospels, most of these relating to the life
and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. In relation to Jesus, we are told the Spirit “descended upon” him,
“was upon” him, “anointed” him, and that Jesus “went in the power of” the Spirit and had the Spirit
without measure. Any man would be hard pressed to base his relationship to the Holy Spirit upon the
interaction of these two members of the Godhead: most of what took place between the Spirit and Son
(both God) is no where mentioned as taking place between the Spirit and the Christian. As in the
previous section, we are primarily interested in the Spirit’s direct dealings with individuals.
