The primary definition of “generate” is to produce life or energy. Something that is “regenerated” is something that was alive, died, and is then brought back to life. Ephesians 2:1 says that before you were saved, you were “dead in trespasses and sins.” In the same verse you can see the old English word “quickened” which means to “make alive.” At salvation the “dead” sinner is given eternal life and thereby made alive!
