Read – At salvation you are baptised WITH the Holy Spirit

Some may tempted to make the baptism “by,” “with” or “of” the Holy Spirit all the same
thing – but God did not put any extra words into his Bible! Where God makes distinctions, we are
obligated to do the same. Spirit baptism is a two-fold work; not only does the Spirit immerse the believer
into the church (which is Christ’s body), but Christ immerses the believer with the Holy Spirit.

No where in Scripture is the phrase “baptism OF the Holy Spirit” found. The phrase
“baptism BY the Spirit” is found once (see above – I Corinthians 12:13) and the “baptism WITH the
Spirit” is found six times in Matthew 3:11; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:17; John 1:33; and Acts 1:5 & 11:16. All of
these verses refer to the work of the Holy Spirit initiated on the Day of Pentecost and subsequently
performed in every person today who comes to Jesus Christ.
